Destiny by Shalini Akhil is about her as a young girl who thinks her destiny is to be Wonder-Woman. As she grows up she becomes obsessed with the television show Wonder-Woman and decides that her destiny is to be Wonder-Woman. Shalini told her grandmother that she wanted to be just like Wonder-Woman.
Shalini's grandmother strongly disagreed on her ambition and due to this her grandmother forced Shalini to conform to her culture and accept her true heritage.
Belonging
The story links to belonging because Shalini feels like she does not belong because she is different and she is not like Wonder-Woman. Her grandmother told Shalini that she does not have the same skin and eye colour. Her grandmother was forcing Shalini to conform to her culture and be like everybody else. This was a denial of individuality. The story also shows that we as individuals in a society can change the course of their destiny and make new path-ways. We all have role models that we look up too, but we as a community must realize that individuality is what makes us human. We don't always have to be exactly the same as long as we share the same moral in life we will be equals.
Techniques
-A clever technique that Shalini Akhil accumulated in the short story is metaphor as shown in paragraph 1. This technique gives the audience the idea of how fast Wonder-Woman's reflexes were.

The short story Destiny by Shalini Akhil is about a young girl who decides that her destiny is to be like Wonder-Woman , however stereotypes forced her to conform to the Indian culture and society.The author Shalini Akhil utilizes various techniques to present the concept of belonging. A technique is used in the title destiny where it presents that Shalini thinks that it is her destiny to be Wonder-Woman, however stereotypes hold her back from the her ambition, the composer effectively used various techniques such as: Irony,similes,metaphor and many others. She conveys various techniques throughout the short story about how her and Wonder-Woman were alike, for example metaphor as shown in paragraph 1."My reflexes were lightning fast". Shalini became obsessed with a superhero and decided that it was her destiny to be just like Wonder-Woman. Her grandmother told her that she couldn't possibly be Wonder-Woman due to her skin and eye colour, Shalini’s grandmother is concerned that Shalini will lose here Indian culture due to the fact that Wonder-Woman wasn't Indian. Shalini’s grandmother was just trying to protect her granddaughter from trouble. This proved that it’s hard for Indians and many other cultural people to grow up in Australia due to the influence of the media. Shalini’s so called “destiny” wasn't ruined but it was changed to fit herself and her abilities.
